Congressman Van Drew expressed satisfaction following Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind’s decision to withdraw its project off the coast of New Jersey. The company filed a petition with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to terminate the offshore wind initiative.
“This is a huge win for South Jersey,” stated Congressman Van Drew. He emphasized that efforts have been ongoing for years to safeguard the coastline, economy, and communities from what he describes as “reckless offshore wind projects.” According to Van Drew, Atlantic Shores’ withdrawal means no wind farms will be constructed off Southern New Jersey’s coast, which aligns with his advocacy goals.
Despite this development, Congressman Van Drew remains concerned about other projects. “Just because we have secured this victory does not mean the fight is over,” he remarked. He highlighted his worries regarding the Empire Wind project in New York and mentioned sending a letter to the Department of Interior urging them to reconsider that project’s continuation.
