Today, Congressman Van Drew expressed his disapproval following New Jersey’s decision to join 16 other states in a lawsuit against President Trump. The lawsuit challenges the executive order that halted offshore wind projects.
In his statement, Congressman Van Drew criticized the Murphy administration for its handling of offshore wind initiatives. “You cannot make this stuff up,” he remarked. He accused the administration of wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on projects that were unsuccessful and opposed by local communities, fishermen, and the tourism industry.
Van Drew also highlighted concerns about environmental and security risks associated with these projects. He mentioned incidents where whales washed ashore and noted that the Pentagon identified national security risks. Furthermore, he cited warnings from the NJ Ratepayer Advocate about potential increases in utility bills and criticism from the Government Accountability Office regarding the project’s drawbacks.
The congressman concluded by criticizing the decision to pursue legal action, stating it was “a slap in the face to every taxpayer and every family struggling to pay their energy bill.”
