Today, Congressman Van Drew introduced a resolution in Washington, DC, condemning the rise of antisemitic attacks across the United States. The resolution comes in response to increasing incidents since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023. A recent incident in Boulder, Colorado involved a man setting peaceful protestors supporting hostages held by Hamas on fire. The resolution aims to affirm Congress’s stance against this attack and antisemitism as a whole.
The resolution is co-led by Rep. Neguse, whose district experienced the attack, along with Congressional Jewish Caucus co-chairs Rep. Schneider and Rep. Nadler. Nearly 50 members from both political parties have co-sponsored the initiative.
“Antisemitism has absolutely no place in the United States of America,” stated Congressman Van Drew. “If your idea of a political protest is threatening, harassing, or attacking a Jewish person, then you are not a protestor. You are a coward.” He emphasized that recent assaults on Jewish Americans and calls for violence cannot be ignored and must be condemned unequivocally.
The background provided highlights several recent incidents: On June 1st, 2025, an illegal immigrant set at least 15 people on fire using Molotov cocktails while shouting “Free Palestine” and expressing intent to kill them all; On May 21st, 2025, two Israeli embassy staffers were shot dead by an assailant motivated by support for Palestine; On April 13th, 2025, there was an attempted assassination of Jewish Governor Josh Shapiro and his family linked to his identity and pro-Israel position.
