Congressman Jeff Van Drew, who represents New Jersey’s 2nd congressional district, addressed a series of national issues in recent posts on his official Twitter account.
On August 26, 2025, Van Drew marked the anniversary of the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan by introducing a resolution to honor those who served. He wrote, “Today marks four years since the botched Afghanistan withdrawal that cost 13 American heroes their lives. I’ve introduced a resolution to honor all who bravely served in the war in Afghanistan. Their service, and the sacrifice of so many, will never be forgotten.”
The following day, on August 27, Van Drew responded to an incident at a Minneapolis school. In his post he stated, “This morning’s shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis was an act of pure evil. My prayers are with the families, children, and first responders.”
On August 28, Van Drew commented on recent crime statistics from Washington D.C., attributing improvements to actions taken by former President Donald Trump. He wrote, “Violent crime in D.C. is down 45% in just 3 weeks. Trump’s crackdown is working, and it should put every blue city on notice.”
Van Drew has been vocal about veterans’ issues and public safety during his tenure in Congress. The anniversary referenced by Van Drew recalls the withdrawal from Afghanistan completed by U.S. forces in August 2021—a process widely scrutinized for its execution and consequences for American service members and Afghan allies.
His comments regarding crime rates come amid ongoing debates about law enforcement strategies and urban safety measures across major U.S. cities.
