Shore Medical Center has recognized Sara Garces-Cano, RN, as its May Guardian Angel of the Month. Garces-Cano, a nurse on the 5 Hayes unit, was honored for her exceptional patient care. The Guardian Angel program allows community members to express gratitude to Shore caregivers through donations made in their honor.
Garces-Cano’s career at Shore began in 2016 as a nurse aide on 5 Hayes. She pursued nursing education while working full-time and became a registered nurse (RN) in 2018. In 2022, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Kelly Duma, RN, BSN, NE-BC, manager of 5 Hayes, praised Garces-Cano: “Sara is a kind, smart and reliable nurse and a great leader on our unit. She regularly assumes the charge nurse role and enjoys precepting new nurses. Sara goes above and beyond to care for her patients and her coworkers. It has been a pleasure watching Sara excel in her career.”
A patient recently honored Garces-Cano with a Guardian Angel donation to the medical center and shared their experience: “Sara was an incredible nurse. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, caring, intelligent and went above and beyond for me and my family. She even made my children feel welcome when I was in a negative headspace. Sara is an amazing human being and was truly my Guardian Angel!”
Garces-Cano resides in Egg Harbor Township with her husband and two children.
The Guardian Angel program at Shore Medical Center provides patients and families with an opportunity to recognize individuals who have positively impacted their care or experience. Honorees receive recognition among peers and are awarded a Guardian Angel pin during an annual ceremony.
