Shore Medical Center has recognized Deborah Oatman, a Health Unit Coordinator and Telemetry Technician in the Emergency Department, as its Employee of the Month for August. Oatman, who lives in Egg Harbor Township, was honored for her consistent service and commitment to the hospital’s mission.
Oatman started at Shore Medical Center in 2002 as a registrar in the Emergency Department. She moved into the health unit coordinator role in 2011 and became a night shift HUC/telemetry technician just before the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020. In her current position, she helps manage patient flow and communication while monitoring cardiac rhythms to ensure coordinated care.
Sherri Richmond, Administrative Director of the Emergency Department, Pediatric Care Center and Respiratory Therapy, commented on Oatman’s contributions: “Deborah is kind, compassionate and a cheerleader who can lighten any mood. She senses when the team needs extra support after a difficult situation and will reach out to the manager to ensure that happens,” Richmond says. “She goes the extra mile to support her colleagues, and is a fierce patient and family advocate. She always finds a way to get them anything they need to assist them during their stay in the ED.”
Oatman also participates in outreach projects through the Emergency Department. Her activities include donating food, clothing, and toiletries for people experiencing homelessness, as well as educating community members about flu vaccination.
