Shore Medical Center has received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog organization focused on patient safety. This marks a significant achievement as hospitals are graded on a scale from “A” to “F” based on more than 30 different measures, which include errors, accidents, injuries, infections, and preventative systems.
“Earning an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group is more than a grade—it’s a reflection of our relentless commitment to the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and equitable care,” remarked Dr. Leonard Galler, the Chief Medical Officer of Shore Medical Center. He emphasized the importance of providing safe, high-quality healthcare to patients and their families.
Valerie DeJoseph, Administrative Director of Quality, Medical Staff Services, and Regulatory for Shore Medical Center, noted the comprehensive nature of achieving this rating: “Achieving this top safety rating requires rigorous evaluation across key areas like infection control, clinical outcomes, and evidence-based practices. It’s a true team effort—our staff continuously trains, innovates, and collaborates to ensure we deliver the safest, most effective care possible for our community.”

The grades, which are published biannually in the spring and fall, are part of The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program—considered the only national rating system focusing solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries.
