DISRUPTION features a bold portrait of Carson by Seth Ruggles Hiler

1

Atlantic Highlands Arts Council issued the following announcement.

On Earth Day we remember Rachel Carson, author of SILENT SPRING and prophetic environmentalist. Our newest show, DISRUPTION features a bold portrait of Carson by Seth Ruggles Hiler. In Seth’s own words: “Carson's writing has moved so many to consider their relationship with Nature, and has inspired me to create this portrait of her, existing as part of a pulsating ecosystem of land, sea and sky, for which she advocated so eloquently. Though my own research for her likeness had to be done through archival means, I was able to travel to the coast of Maine to study tide pools similar to those she spent years exploring. Rachel catches our gaze as if to say to us humans of the 21st century, “are we ready now?” DISRUPTION: Art of Change is on now until May 28th. Join us next Saturday from 6-8 for opening reception and artist talk.
