Today, Congressman Van Drew expressed his concerns regarding the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) following their acceptance of a report that includes a proposal for income-based electric rates.

"Once again, the NJBPU is taking direct aim at the hardworking middle class of New Jersey," stated Congressman Van Drew. He criticized the board for considering income-based fixed rates on top of a 17% rate increase set to begin June 1st. According to Van Drew, this policy would add financial strain on families and businesses already struggling with their bills.

"For the third time, I am calling on the leadership of the NJBPU to resign," he continued. Van Drew accused them of endorsing policies that burden the middle class and exacerbate living costs in New Jersey. He emphasized that while utility companies are profiting, families are struggling financially.

"The NJBPU's leadership is out of touch with the people they are supposed to represent," he asserted. Van Drew called for a change in leadership and urged New Jersey's next governor to reverse these policies. "We need a new direction for New Jersey, and that starts with leadership that listens to the people."

Van Drew vowed to continue opposing what he described as "sky-high rate hikes" and "disastrous policies."
