Congressman Jeff Van Drew has introduced new legislation aimed at improving the quality of trauma kits used by law enforcement officers. The bill, known as the Improving Police Critical Aid for Responding to Emergencies (CARE) Act, seeks to ensure that any trauma kit purchased with federal funds meets consistent national standards.
Van Drew highlighted concerns about the declining quality of trauma kits in recent years. He stated, “Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every single day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve to have the best possible tools when it matters most.” He added, “Over the years, the quality of trauma kits has declined, with many departments being forced to rely on cheap, poorly made materials from overseas. These kits are used to stop severe bleedingĀ and to save lives in emergencies, and what many officers are working with now is a serious risk to public safety and a disservice to the men and women who protect us. The Improving Police CARE Act will make sure that national standards are in place, guaranteeing that every trauma kit meets life-saving requirements. This commonsense bill ensures that when our officers reach for their trauma kits, they can trust what isĀ inside will work.”
The legislation has received support from several major law enforcement organizations including the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA), and Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).
