Today in Washington, D.C., Congressman Van Drew expressed opposition to a request by Attentive Energy concerning a delayed payment of $37.3 million to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. This payment is associated with an offshore wind project situated 42 miles off Seaside Heights.

“Once again, the offshore wind industry is trying to avoid its financial responsibilities and stick New Jersey taxpayers with the bill,” stated Van Drew. He further criticized Attentive Energy’s request, describing it as an attempt to evade accountability. Van Drew emphasized his long-standing opposition, stating, “I have been fighting against these projects for years because we knew from the start they would be a financial disaster for our state.”

Van Drew highlighted his efforts which include holding hearings, collaborating with President Trump on an executive order, and issuing warnings about potential financial pitfalls like increased utility rates. He remarked, “This is exactly why New Jersey already has some of the highest energy costs in the country.”

The Congressman concluded by urging the NJBPU to prioritize the state’s residents, urging them to deny more delays and hold developers accountable for their promises. “The developers of these projects are making promises that they cannot keep, and when it comes time to pay up, they want to delay their commitments,” he said.
