Today, Congressman Van Drew expressed his support for President Trump’s executive order aimed at reducing prescription drug prices in the United States. The order, signed by the President, seeks to align Medicare payments for prescription drugs with the lowest prices paid in other developed countries.
“Today, President Trump took a bold step to lower prescription drug prices for Americans, and I fully support it,” stated Congressman Van Drew. He highlighted the ongoing issue of American families facing high costs for medications that are available at significantly lower prices elsewhere. “This has to change,” he added.
To further this initiative, Congressman Van Drew announced plans to introduce the Fair Prescription Drug Prices for Americans Act. This proposed legislation would prohibit drug manufacturers from charging Medicare and privately insured Americans more than what they charge in countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, or Japan. Violations would result in substantial civil monetary penalties amounting to ten times the price difference per dose sold under these insurance plans.
“It is time to put the interests of the American people first and stop letting Big Pharma get away with price gouging,” said Congressman Van Drew.
