Accent Sinus Center & Head & Neck Group in Linwood, New Jersey, promotes excellence in patient care and offers a Sinus Self-Assessment Quiz to determine how sinus symptoms are affecting their quality of life.

While filling out the quiz, you can select symptoms you experience that could be related to sinusitis and receive a quality-of-life score. Some symptoms are associated with the sinuses, such as congestion and nasal drainage. Other symptoms refer to potentially related issues, such as inability to sleep.

“I believe a happy patient is an educated patient,” Dr. Nicola DeLorio told the Atlantic County Times. “My philosophy involves explaining the disease process to the patient. It starts with why and what they’re experiencing, as well as explaining their treatments and why we are choosing those treatments. Then they feel like they’re more involved in their care and are usually more compliant because their understanding of what (is causing) the pain.”

DeLorio, who is also founder and medical director of Accent Aesthetics Medical and Laser Day Spa, is a board-certified physician with over 17 years’ experience treating patients who have allergies and sinus problems. DeLorio’s husband, Dr. Gerald Galinus, is her business partner.

Her team includes surgical care coordinator and medical assistant Maria Vila, patient care coordinator and medical assistant Rosita Otero, patient care coordinator ToniAnn Pugliese and certified audiologist Laura McCrone. Accent Sinus Center & Head & Neck Group is the only practice in New Jersey to have been recognized as a National Center for Excellence in balloon sinuplasty procedures.  

"I wanted to be a doctor since I had my tonsils out when I was 6 years old," DeLorio said. "I really never wavered from that. I had a moment when I went  to college thinking maybe I should be a nurse but quickly changed my  mind. When I did an ENT (ear, nose and throat) rotation in my residency, I found the anatomy, surgery and the variety of things involved in ENT to be fascinating. I was hooked."
