Congressman Van Drew issued a statement regarding a recent report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) highlighting potential issues associated with offshore wind development. The report, released by GAO, a nonpartisan congressional watchdog, cites significant concerns including the potential interference with radar systems crucial for national defense and aviation, threats to maritime safety, and potential harm to marine environments.

"The GAO's findings confirm exactly what I have been warning about for years," stated Congressman Van Drew. "These wind projects were rushed through with little regard for how they could affect our national security, disrupt radar systems, interfere with military operations, or threaten navigation and safety along our coasts."

Van Drew criticized the Biden administration for allegedly disregarding warnings from experts and local communities. He asserted, "The Biden administration ignored the warnings, ignored the experts, and ignored the local communities who raised legitimate concerns. Now we have an independent, nonpartisan report that makes it clear: these risks are very real."

Furthermore, Van Drew mentioned former President Trump's previous actions concerning offshore wind projects. "President Trump did the right thing by putting these projects on hold, and it is time to put an end to them once and for all before more damage is done," he said.

The full GAO report is available for those interested in the detailed findings.
