Congressman Van Drew has voiced criticism of John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, for his remarks about an ongoing unidentified drone situation. Kirby had stated that "we have seen nothing" unusual regarding the matter.
Van Drew commented on Kirby's response: "For John Kirby to stand before the American people, red-faced and sputtering excuses, and claim there is nothing out of the ordinary going on here after weeks of mounting concern is either sheer incompetence, willful ignorance, or a cover-up."
He highlighted reports from citizens about drones "some the size of SUVs," and expressed frustration over what he perceives as dismissive attitudes from the administration. "It is unacceptable," Van Drew said. He mentioned local law enforcement's concerns and noted that the PSEG nuclear power plant has requested restricted airspace due to drone activity—a first-time request—yet officials maintain everything is normal.
Van Drew emphasized a need for transparency if these drones are part of a government operation. He referenced past incidents like the Chinese spy balloon situation where initial dismissals were later proven incorrect. "To now dismiss these drones as routine is the height of arrogance and it is disrespectful to the people of America," he added.
He also criticized potential bureaucratic responses: "Of course, they will hold hearings, task forces, and commissions but nothing will come of it." Van Drew committed to continuing his efforts to obtain answers for Americans: "I will not let that happen. I will keep pushing and attempt to get real answers for the American public."
