Today, Congressman Van Drew announced a commitment from Scott Turner, the nominee for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to visit Atlantic City and address issues at Stanley Holmes Village. The announcement followed a conversation between Van Drew and Turner regarding the deteriorating conditions at the housing complex managed by the Atlantic City Housing Authority (ACHA).
"Secretary Turner and I had an in-depth conversation, and it is clear he is just as concerned as I am about what is happening in Atlantic City," stated Congressman Van Drew. He highlighted a recent incident where a resident was forced to leave her home due to work on underground pipes, resulting in the death of her pet bulldog. Van Drew described this as "a direct result of the ACHA's negligence" and deemed it "unacceptable."
Van Drew expressed optimism about Turner's involvement, stating that Turner "is committed to coming here, touring the facilities, and seeing the situation for himself." He emphasized his intent to collaborate with Turner once he assumes his role as HUD Secretary to ensure improvements for Stanley Holmes Village residents. "The people of South Jersey deserve safe and decent housing," Van Drew concluded.
