Today, Congressman Van Drew took a stand against President Biden's threat to withhold aid to Israel by introducing a resolution of condemnation. This move comes after Congress approved a $26.3 billion package on April 23rd, aimed at providing aid and military assistance to Israel. The funds were intended to bolster the country's defense against Hamas, a terrorist organization that has shown relentless aggression towards Israel.
However, President Biden has seemingly reneged on this agreement by delaying the shipment of this vital support due to Israel's advancement into Rafah, one of Hamas' last military strongholds.
Congressman Van Drew expressed his disapproval of the President's actions, stating, "Even the threat of withholding essential aid and military assistance to our steadfast ally, Israel, is completely unacceptable." He went on to say that such a decision jeopardizes not only Israel's security but also undermines America's longstanding commitment to supporting the only democracy in the Middle East.
Van Drew further criticized President Biden for what he perceives as pandering to an anti-Semitic base ahead of the upcoming presidential election. He believes that by attempting to withhold Congressionally approved aid, President Biden sends a dangerous message that could embolden Israel's adversaries and weaken America's dominance on the world stage.
The Congressman ended his statement with a call for immediate action from President Biden: "He must immediately clarify his comments, ensure that aid is delivered with haste to Israel, and make clear that Israel has America's unwavering support in its fight against Hamas."
