Congressman Van Drew recently questioned FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell during a House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee hearing. The inquiry focused on allegations that FEMA workers were directed to "avoid homes advertising Trump" while assisting hurricane victims. This instruction reportedly resulted in at least 20 homes with Trump campaign signs or flags being overlooked.
"In the most vulnerable moments of their lives, when these people are terrified and desperate for aid, the federal government turned its back on them because of their political beliefs," stated Congressman Van Drew. He emphasized that "there is no place for bias in disaster relief—ever." Van Drew accused FEMA of neglecting its core mission to provide emergency support to all Americans.
In response to these allegations, Congressman Van Drew has sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, urging an immediate investigation into the matter. He stressed the need to uncover any misuse of authority and hold accountable those who prioritized politics over safety.
