Congressman Van Drew has informed the public about an upcoming meeting by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) scheduled for December 18, 2024, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be accessible to the public both in person and via live stream. One of the main topics for discussion is Atlantic City Electric's request for an 8% rate increase affecting all utility consumers.

"South Jerseyans are already struggling with record-high utility rates, and this hike will only make things worse," Congressman Van Drew stated. He expressed concerns that the funds from the proposed rate increase would finance infrastructure upgrades such as electric vehicle charging stations, which he considers unnecessary. Additionally, he criticized NJBPU's plan to boost subsidies for offshore wind projects despite what he described as "widespread public opposition."

Governor Murphy and NJBPU were accused by Van Drew of ignoring public needs while pursuing unpopular agendas with taxpayer money. Although public participation in the meeting is not permitted, Van Drew emphasized that attending either in person or online could demonstrate to NJBPU how important this issue is to South Jersey residents.

The meeting will take place at the Board Hearing Room on the first floor at 44 South Clinton Avenue, Trenton, NJ. It can also be viewed live on YouTube.
