For Paul G., a 77-year-old retired civil trial attorney from Atlantic City, the Cardiac Rehab Program at Shore Medical Center has been a vital part of his recovery journey. After undergoing open-heart surgery in July 2023, Paul joined the rehab program three months later with the goal of regaining his strength and health.

"I watch people closely—I always have," Paul states. "And what I see at Shore is truly remarkable. The care, the attention, the effort they put in—They’re incredible. Just thinking about how much they care fills my eyes with tears. I feel so lucky to have them in my corner."

In November 2024, during a birthday celebration at a restaurant in Margate, Paul experienced sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to the quick action of a pizza chef who performed CPR, Paul survived without any deficits—a rare outcome for such incidents outside hospital settings.

Following this incident, Paul received a defibrillator and pacemaker and returned to Shore's cardiac rehab program after three weeks. He joined the "monitor in therapy" program, which combines cardiac rehabilitation with physical therapy.

Paul praises the dedication of his care team at Shore Medical Center: "I see the way they do their jobs, how much they care, how much effort they put into helping people," he says. "It’s incredible to watch."

Having lived most of his life in Philadelphia, Paul was accustomed to seeking medical care there but found exceptional service closer to home at Shore Medical Center. His appreciation extends beyond his rehab team to include Dr. Ulices Perez from Shore Physicians Group and Dr. James Davis from Penn Cardiology Somers Point.

"My cardiac rehab team takes good care of me, and they worry about me," Paul shares. "Honestly, they worry more about me than I do. And that kind of care is something special."

Paul's experience highlights the quality of care provided by Shore Medical Center, which relies on community support for maintaining essential equipment and resources for patient recovery.
