Shore Medical Center has announced that Emmy Arroyo-Cruz, a registered nurse from Pleasantville, is the April 2025 Guardian Angel of the Month. This recognition is part of the center's Guardian Angel program, which began as a means for community members to honor caregivers through donations in their names.
Emmy Arroyo-Cruz joined Shore Medical Center in 2018 as a nurse aide on the 5 Hayes Unit. While working full-time, she pursued her nursing degree and became a registered nurse in 2021. Kelly Duma, nurse manager of 5 Hayes, praised Arroyo-Cruz for her professionalism and dedication. “From her days as a nurse aide to her current role as an RN, her dedication has never wavered. She is professional, intelligent, and deeply committed to her patients, the organization, and her colleagues on 5 Hayes. Emmy is consistently kind and supportive to both patients and their families. She regularly goes above and beyond in her care and demonstrates strong clinical skills. Watching Emmy grow into the exceptional nurse she is today has been one of the greatest joys of my career.”
A recent Guardian Angel donation was made in Arroyo-Cruz's honor by the family of a patient she cared for. They expressed gratitude, saying, “Emmy was very kind and committed to giving excellent care to our 100-year-old father and she did it with such empathy. Emmy being bilingual is such an asset to the hospital. Having someone who understands our culture & values is a huge advantage in the kind of care that one receives.”
Beyond her work, Arroyo-Cruz is deeply involved in her community and church, and is dedicated to her family and husband.
The Guardian Angel program at Shore Medical Center allows patients and their families to acknowledge the contributions of caregivers who have made a significant impact on their care. Recognized individuals receive a Guardian Angel pin during an annual ceremony. Those interested in honoring a caregiver can contact Shore's Planned Giving & Development Department or visit their website.
